1. Guest Cart

I usually fill my guest cart with all those little things someone might have forgotten at home. Think toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, soap, makeup remover wipes, extra towels, and maybe a few snacks.

I love the idea of having everything in one pretty basket or rolling cart so guests can help themselves without having to ask. Get creative! Only you know your family and the things that will make them feel right at home.

2. Clean Sheets

I think it’s safe to say that fresh, clean sheets are a guilty pleasure for most of us.

Before guests arrive, I always want the bed made with clean linens, comfortable pillows, and an extra blanket in case they get chilly. If someone is staying a little longer, having another set of sheets on hand makes a mid-visit change easy.

It’s a simple touch, but there’s nothing quite like climbing into a freshly made bed at the end of a long travel day.

3. Tour Guide

Leave your guests a little list of things to do around town. Include favorite restaurants, coffee shops, holiday markets, shopping spots, and outdoor activities.

I love the idea of putting everything in a cute folder or binder that you can update and reuse. Leave it in the guest room so everyone has a few ideas if they want to get out and explore.

Sometimes the best hospitality is helping guests enjoy the place you call home.

4. Wi-Fi Password

Having the Wi-Fi password ready will keep guests from having to ask for it.

While I think we could all use a little time to unplug during the holidays, sometimes work or family calls make that impossible.

A little Wi-Fi sign in the guest room is an easy solution. You can keep it in a frame and update it anytime your password changes. It’s one less thing for anyone to worry about.

Charging cables and a charging hub within reach of a guest bed.

5. Extra Phone Charger

How many times have you forgotten your phone charger? I know it would be easier to count how many times I’ve actually remembered mine!

Keep a couple of extra charging cables and a convenient outlet or charging station near the guest bed. If you can, have options for different phones.

It’s such a small thing, but your guests will appreciate not having to hunt for a charger before bedtime.

6. Candy

Leave a little sweetness in the guest room.

A pretty dish filled with holiday treats is an inexpensive way to make the space feel festive. I love leaving a bowl of peppermints around Christmas. It’s one of those little touches that makes me smile!

Just be mindful of young children and pets, and keep candy where they can’t reach it.

7. Spare Keys

If your guests will be coming and going throughout their visit, consider giving them a spare key or temporary entry code.

No one wants to get locked out while everyone else is out shopping or enjoying holiday activities.

Give them a quick explanation of the lock, too. It gives everyone a little more freedom and makes the visit easier on both you and your guests.

8. Food & Snacks

Stock the kitchen with easy, grab-and-go snacks, bottled water, and a few breakfast options.

If children are visiting, having snacks in smaller portions makes life much easier. And while it’s the holidays, not everything has to be cookies and candy!

Fresh fruit, yogurt, granola bars, crackers, mixed nuts, and trail mix are all good options. I also like asking ahead about any allergies or favorite foods so there is something for everyone.

9. Coffee & Tea

Coffee is a must in most households, especially when family is visiting!

Find out what your guests like to drink and keep a little variety on hand. If you have a single-serve coffee maker, it’s easy to offer a few different coffees, plus tea and hot cocoa for anyone who prefers something else.

I had an aunt who kept an extra Keurig upstairs just for her guests. She didn’t want anyone to have to come downstairs first thing in the morning just for coffee.

I always thought that was such a wonderful and thoughtful touch.

10. Kids’ Activities

Don’t forget the kids!

Have a basket ready with coloring books, crayons, puzzles, games, small toys, or a few holiday crafts.

Most parents bring things along, but having a few extras can make a big difference during a busy visit. It keeps little hands occupied and gives the grown-ups a chance to catch up.

And let’s face it, it might just help everyone keep their sanity by the end of the day!

11. Fresh Smells

Make your home sparkle and shine before everyone arrives.

I love how a freshly cleaned room feels, especially with clean floors, fresh towels, and crisp bedding.

Take care of carpets or rugs that need a little attention, wipe down surfaces, and open the windows for some fresh air if the weather allows.

A little holiday greenery can make the room feel extra cozy, too. I try not to overdo fragrances since some guests and pets can be sensitive to strong scents.

Clean and comfortable is always the goal!

So remember, a little effort goes a long way when it comes to making someone feel right at home.

The only problem with these ideas is that once your guests are treated so wonderfully… they may never leave!
